10 Must Do Things this Summer in San Francisco

Here at Tilden Hotel, we don’t simply serve up the finest boutique hospitality San Francisco has to offer: We also place our guests in an incredibly strategic location in the City by the Bay, with many of its most popular attractions within blissfully easy reach. Summer’s a wonderful time to explore all that San Francisco has to offer out of your Tilden guest room or suite, and today at the blog we’ve rounded up a mere 10 of the top things to do this season to whet your appetite.

Let’s dive in!

(1) Join the Celebration at San Francisco Pride

There’s no bigger gathering of the LGBTQ community and its supporters in the country than the San Francisco Pride Celebration and Parade, going down the last weekend of June in downtown.

(2) Rock Out at the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival

Legendary performers like Childish Gambino, Anderson .Paak, Kacey Musgraves and Paul Simon are taking the stage this year at the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival, which will draw tens of thousands to Golden Gate Park August 9th through the 11th.

(3) Enjoy the West Coast’s Biggest Free Jazz Festival

Tremendous musicianship, delicious cuisine, arts-and-crafts, and all-around good times await you at the free Fillmore Jazz Festival, the 36th edition of which’ll once again groove along in the Pacific Heights District the Saturday and Sunday following the Fourth of July.

(4) Go on a Wine-Tasting Safari

Given the caliber of the (gorgeous) wine country at its doorstep, San Francisco ranks among the very best places anywhere in the world to appreciate the gift of the grape. From urban tasting rooms to daytrip winery tours in the Napa and Sonoma valleys, use Tilden Hotel as your oenophilic jumping-off point this summer!

(5) Catch a Theater Production

Call Tilden your home away from home in San Francisco, and you’ve got a plethora of fine theaters within easy reach. From Hamilton at the Orpheum to Rent at the Golden Gate, you won’t have to travel far for onstage magic this summer…

(6) Take in the San Francisco Marathon

Whether you’re tackling the 5K, the half-marathon, the marathon, or the ultramarathon—or simply spectating—the San Francisco Marathon is another defining fixture of the Bay Area summer, taking place this year on Sunday, July 28th. The Embarcadero marks the starting and finishing line, and it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump from Tilden!

(7) Check Out the Car-free Gatherings of Sunday Streets SF

Presented by the non-profit Livable City, Sunday Streets offers temporary conversions of busy streets into family-friendly car-free zones fostering community togetherness and hosting fun activities in neighborhoods all around the city. Check out the 2019 schedule here!

(8) Take Advantage of Free Museum Admission

Many of San Francisco’s outstanding museums offer free admission once a month, including the Asian Art Museum (first Sundays) and the Museum of Craft & Design (first Tuesdays).

(9) Catch the Giants in Action

Another quintessential summertime San Francisco experience? Catching some homegrown Major League Baseball over at Oracle Park, H.Q. for the venerable Giants. You’re only about a mile and a half from the South Beach ballpark as a guest here at Tilden, setting you up beautifully for a dose of America’s Pastime, Orange and Black-style.

(10) Walk Lands’ End

History and scenery combine to marvelous effect at the northwestern tip of San Francisco. Walk the Coastal Trail and other paths of Lands’ End in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and you’ll have a stunning tableau of land- and seascape to gaze upon—plus some fascinating historical relics, including the abandoned Sutro Baths and (at low tide) offshore shipwrecks.
